The Trap
von mr_werns am 03. Dec. 2010, unter Origins Development
Every step Origins is visually developing that really cheers my heart. It is really amazing what creative minds are able to conjure out of written words
This really nice concept-design is from Sander Ottens, aka Vyrus, and shows a prep for a cutscene. Sander – please much more of those
Well done!

NASA discovers lifeform built with arsenic
von mr_werns am 03. Dec. 2010, unter News
Who remembers Horta from TOS-Episode The Devil in the Dark?
Then as today a compareable lifeform sounds just as Science Fiction because all life, as it was terrestrial or extraterrestrial, where assumed to develop only from carbon, hydrogen, nitrogen, oxygen, phosphorus and sulfur. So it was logical to search for these components while searching for alien-lifeforms out there.
But yesterday there was the sensation while NASA-press-confernce: In Mono Lake, California Scientists discovered the lifeform GFAJ-1 (what a name). A bacteria which substitutes arsenic for phosphorus. This might be unspectecular in the first sight, but is a revolution for the search for alien-lifeforms. Suddenly environments came into considerations, which where excluded for search in the first place – till now. What they will discover in the next weeks, months or years is still written in the stars, but the chance to find something has increased enormous.

Who wants to know more and also whant to read critcal voices – here is more background:

Progress and Find
von mr_werns am 16. Nov. 2010, unter News, Origins Development
How to visualize an adventure game? All the wirtten lines of the story and the puzzle-documents have to be translated into scenes, which can narrate the story in a visual way.
To do so, I’ve been through all the already finished chapters of the story and counted actual 116 backgrounds and detailviews, which have to be created – much work and chapter 7-9 are not included yet!
But now we will work on the real concept for all the locations and I’m looking foward to the next weeks, where finally will be more to see from Orgins.
Captain Soma

In the meanwhile I’ve found a very funny site, which makes you a day with delicious comics of the Enterprise crew – worth a visit in either case

First Trailer of Star Trek Infinite Space
von mr_werns am 27. Oct. 2010, unter News
Fianlly: The first Trailer of Gameforge’s browsergame Star Trek Infinite Space has been released… or should it be called Infinite Wars? A bit to much spacebattle and less “Star Trek” if you ask me for my first impression, but see by yourself:
I hope the game will offer more than just fight-scenarios, but I will definitely chance a glimpse when it came out next summer.

Back from gamescom / Star Trek Browsergame
von mr_werns am 25. Aug. 2010, unter News
Much to do and much to see this year’s gamescom in Cologne.
Together with the team of GamerGirls we were filming, interviewing and playing on the exhibition. Among other things there was Battlestar Galactica Online from Bigpoint, too – absolutely stunning! ![]()
But the reason why I’m writing here is: During the exhibition our developer Michael sends me an link to a news about a browsergame named Star Trek Infinite Space, which is in development by gameforge.
As luck would have it I met a developer from gamesforge at gamescom – a Star Trek fan, too – who couldn’t hide his passion for this upcoming game.
Soon there will be a trailer for the audience – unfortunatly I have missed the presentation at gamescome
.
Star Trek Infinite Space is meanwhile developed with the Unity-Engine on which Battlestar Galactica Online is based on (and is looking awesome).
Summer 2011 the game shall be released – probably a Beta will be started earlier. Can’t wait!

Story-structure
von mr_werns am 12. Aug. 2010, unter Origins Development
While working on a story there you might lose overview. With the many pages Origins allready has, it is helpful to pick out some core-elements and to write them down in their hierarchy. As a result of that, you will get a small diagram, which makes you able to find e.g. logic-holes and to fix them.
So if you want to know what takes me buisy yesterday evening – here! :

This is the story in “short” … I first wanted to upload the image untouched, but then I thought… Nooooot

Ensign Sue must die!
von mr_werns am 22. Jul. 2010, unter News
While I’m planing some big Updates for the coming weekend dealing with the puzzles of the missing chapters and some minor story changes, I’m searching for people who can help us to visualize all the required backgrounds and scenes. Meanwhile I’ve beeing amused by a delicious comic with the significant title “Ensign Sue must die!”
Pot Luck Comics has already released the 16th episode and I’m really curious about how the story will go on. Dealing with the “new” Abrams-Trek, the crew of the Enterprise fights a Ensign, no men has … considered she might be possible before
But see for yourself – have fun
